I really want to get a Prepaid phone, but I don't know which service? Cingular? or T-Mobile?

Cingular, definitely. Although both services use the 3G/GSM network, Cingular has an exclusive contract deal where their customers can use all of T-Mobile's towers, but not the other way around. So, you get more coverage area with Cingular. T-Mobile's customer service reps also tend to be Nazis, but Cingular's aren't the greatest, either. Hopefully you won't have to deal with them much if you're gettin pre-paid.

I'm not sure if either company will let you upgrade later to a regular monthly plan without buying a new phone. If you ever decide to do this, you can use your existing phone by getting it "unlocked" at an independent cell phone store (i.e., not a Cingular or T-Mobile store). Most places charge about $20 for this service, and it will save you from buying a new phone AND let you get a 1-year contract on your service rather than a 2-year contract.

Hey Lovetorun, I have a prepaid T-M Nokia 6101. I think the point of looking for any prepaid is how much it costs per minute for use of the telephone. In other words, T-M has a $100 refill that has 1000 minutes and does not expire for 1 year. Now, that works out to about $9 or less per month unless you use it more.

If you go with a smaller denomination refill, you pay higher price per minute of use. I didn't consider the cost of the phone because that is sunk cost. But T-M has prepackaged prepaid phones that include phone, charger, belt clip, etc.

Good Luck

I like the Tracfone too. For $30-50 you can buy a new Tracfone
and charge it up with as many minutes as you want. The phone
works everywhere I have been in the USA. No bills, no hassle.

Nobody can clone the phone and run up thousands of dollars of calls.

It is a really good deal for some people, like me, who need a phone for moderate usage and for emergencies.. If you LIVE on the mobile phone, then it might not be such a good deal.

Try TracFone. They have lots of deals and for about $100 you can get a years service and a free refurbished phone. I think they even have a deal for $19. for a free phone a a month or two of talk time. Check it out.

They both work the same way. I would go by which is the cheapest and which one looks the coolest.
