I do business consulting from home. Everything I do is on the computer and the telephone. I almost never have to meet my clients face to face unless I'm attending a planning meeting or something like that. (Only had to do 2 times in a year) The majority of the work I do is web design and maintenance, but I also do a lot of writing and editing company reports. Last year, I had a huge job of writing a massive business plan, which is really easy to do from home if you have the knowledge. It's just a lot of emailing back and forth with the client.
Another fun aspect of my job is the creativity...I get to make media presentations and do a lot of graphic art.
Also, Blue Sheild of CA employs telecommuters - they supply the computer, but you have to know insurance billing.
By the way, the best part is I don't have to take a job if I don't want to! And a lot of the time I'm in my sweats or PJs when I work!

No I don't. But I do know this (not trying to get points, I truly want to help you here). Anyone who trys to sell you on the survey thing is full of it. Cashcrate, Panda Research...all of those are phoney. There is NO survey, as in what any normal person would call a survery. You find yourself scrolling through endless pages of "offers" and this survey you are paid for only when you "complete" it. In order to complete it, you have to sign up with other companies and that involved buying from them. It's a scam. Just be forewarned!

You might need some additional skills for really legitimate computer work, specially if it's home based. Medical transcription is one possible area of work, but you'll need to train because of the medical terminology.
If you're ok with working on computers from an office, then you can look for a call center.

I'm actually trying to get hired through IBM, but most of the 'stuff your own envelope' schemes are frauds. Very hard to find a legit one, sorry.

Yes, about.com will pay you to be an expert on a topic if you know a subject really well.
I found this group that seems to be fairly legit and they don't charge you anything:
