Yes I would think so, but get expert advice, your eyes are too precious to gamble with. Ask an optician for recommendations, visit and look at clinics first. Check prices and qualification of surgeon. Ask lots of questions (make a list if need be!). Compare prices, they vary quite a bit.
I cant recommend a specific clinic but good luck finding one. Do a web search and trhat should throw up several possibilites

I had this surgery about 7 months ago and now see at 20/15 in both eyes. There are risks which the doctor SHOULD cover with you during your visit, but the risks are rare and a GOOD doctor should be able to tell you if you are a good candidate for the surgery. The most important thing you can do is make sure the doc is reputable and not some guy or gal who opened up a clinic in the mall on a whim. Your first visit should be long and they should run A LOT of different tests on your eyes to see if you are able to have the surgery. Even if the doc is reputable, get a second opinion, make sure you are a good candidate and they are not just giving you a line to get your money. Also it depend on the type of surgery you are having. If you are near sighted then LASIK or similar is the way however if your eyes are just getting worse because of aging the surgery is a little different than just regular laser surgery. Other than that it is the BEST money I have ever spent and if someone took it away today I would do it all over again!

If the consultation showed you were suitable that's a good thing. Having a -6.00 prescription corrected will ensure that YOU WILL need reading glasses after surgery, no if's, and's, or but's about it! Make sure you see a reputable surgeon and that that same surgeon does your follow-up (and did the consultation, as well). Don't be afraid to ask questions, but have realistic expectations, you may have some trouble with dry eyes after, and will have some loss of contrast sensitivity, both of which are very normal. 20/20 without your glasses IS NOT the same 20/20 that you have with them now (if that's what your vision is). It's very different. It's a good surgery for those who have been properly screened and found suitable, and for those with realistic expectations. Be properly educated, and you'll be happy. I work with a surgeon in the U.S., don't know any UK surgeons.

My wife has the same prescription and is going for her consultation on 8th Nov. Her optician sed Optimax are the best clinics as they have by far the longest experience at doing this (over 12 years). Several friends have had it done - all without problems and all 100% succesful

My vision is 20/400 which is really bad. There was a time I really wanted to do the Lasik surgery. However, quite frankly, I am quite hesitant now... because of the possible side effects, and the other risks, etc.
I opted to try exercises to see if they would improve my vision. I created a blog so that people can follow my progress. You can check it out at

You may not want to hear this, but laser surgery (like all operations) carry a risk. You will notice that an optician will wear glasses...why don't they have the surgery?

Go for one of those free pre-consultations. There's a few around like ultra-lase etc. There's one or 2 in Manchester.

You need two things: the advice and knowledge of a trained, licensed, practicing ophthalmologist and you need the funds for that expensive surgery, not covered by insurance.
Chow!!
