Just think about the hell some parents lay up for their kids by giving them barmy names like Romeo - you know the rest! The Swedes used to have a system (maybe still do) of calling their kids "boy" or "girl" until they were old enough to choose their own first names, and this has plenty of good sense in it.

Pick something that won't make the child wince when they grow up. So many cute names won't suit an adult. Think ahead - one day they may reach the age of eighty. Give them a proper name such as William or Charlotte, then shorten it to Billy or Charlie while they ar young, that way they have the choice when they are older.

Well, my husband and I were looking for names that maybe reminded us of Vegas since we got married there 2 years ago and it's our fav place. We thought of all kinds of crazy ones ( Newton, Vegas, Elvis...etc. ) and then I came up with Sahara. We stayed at the Sahara Hotel when we got married.......now that we know it's a girl it is one of our choices. Maybe my suggestion will help you come up with a special one of your own. My husband got me a book from the library called, "So you named me what?" It's about celebrities and thier baby names..... maybe that will help. We decided Sahara will be the middle name and here is our other choices:
1. Charlotte (Charley for short)
2. Darla
3. Lila

1. Jayden
2. Brandon
3. Joseph.

Hiya!
I am a midwife and my name is Arlette. I have had two babies in which I delivered named after me as the parents thought it was a pretty and unusual name?! It is beginning to appear in baby name books now. Good luck with the pregnancy/birth xx

Use your imagination!

I wouldn't suggest any names myself, as none of the names I ike could be decribed as "modern".

We've chosen "Arthur" - as in "King Arthur" for our baby boy as I'm Welsh and my BF is English and we felt it reflected our Celtic British heritage, plus it was my BF's grandfather's name and has a family connection.

Plus its unusual and noone else is using it (I hate names that loads of other people are using!)

Don't use other people's suggestions. Use a name that means something to you and your partner and your family.

It is a legacy you will give to your child and something they will carry with them all their lives. It should reflect who your child is, their heritage their family, their culture, who you hope they will grow up to be.

It shouldn't just be something "cool" you picked up off a TV show. Or something that someone else likes the sound of. Thats what you name your dog. A child's name needs to be something special.

Sit down and dcuss sit with your nearest and dearest.

My girls are called Amy Jessica and Rebecca Laura - i like traditional names. Amy has some friends with nice names: Iona (pronounced I-own-a) and Layna and Marnie. Boys names I like are Calum and Cameron (both for boy and girl) and Rhys.
