I know what you mean. Carlos Santana once said in an interview he would like to see a TV network devoted entirely to positive news stories, about inspiring people, like Mother Theresa, Gandhi, Nelson Mandela, etc. He would call it "The Excellence Network", and he feels it would inspire people to think and be more positive about their world. Doesn't that sound like a great idea?

Goodness doesn't sell. There are a lot peopole that want to tune in and see how other people have a worse life than there own. It makes them feel better. The news media thinks that showing all the evil and the world and not showing the goodness is what everybody wants. I don't even like to watch the news now days because it is so depressing. I begin to feel that everything is awful when I watch the news.

News people are paid mucho bucks to focus on the depressing non-stories like death and destruction to keep your mind occupied and diverted from contemplation of any meaningful issue. You are a sheep in the flock and made up issues, statistics, studies, are all meant to divert you from the fact that government exists solely to maintain the "class" system so that the many support the ambitions and wealth of the few. If at any time you start to get ahead, you are quickly put in your place with rising prices and costs of utilities, gasoline, insurance, doctors, groceries, and any necessary service in your life. They do allow you to live better than in any other country on earth so that you will never leave the "flock" and rebel against their might. We are the joke of the world, because they see this phony stuff and rebel. That is why they have no respect for America. We are stupid sheep who sit back and take it. LOL

I know what you mean. I want to be informed about the happenings of the world. But I don't want to hear all the sad and depressing things that are going on. Once in a blue moon, I may read an uplifting story. Negativity sell papers and magazines, and produces high ratings for television. Most of us complain but we still read and tune in. It's like watching an accident. You know you should keep going but...

The news focuses on the negative for the same reason the politicians involve themselves in mud-slinging almost exclusively: It's what sells.
People are more interested in the bad things that happen, and in the negative in the world (regardless of how much they complain). That is why they crowd around a crash scene, or a disaster so heavily. They want to see the death and destruction.

It's because people are addicted to it. People need drama in their lives.
With modern technology and everything we desire at the flick of a switch - we have very little excitement in our lives. The news capitalize on our needy natures. They sell very expensive advertising space around the news - whether it's in the paper or the television news.
People are drawn to bad news headlines like moths to a flame.
All this bad news is raping western minds and hearts.
Yes we know terrible things happen, we know people are being blown up and little children are starving. Why desensitize our minds to the tragedies of life? Because it sells - the more people that buy it, the more they can charge for the advertising space.
The media is one big Sugar Daddy.

Because the negative stories create the most buzz and makes for more people to turn on the news. It's a sad thing, but they do go for the ratings, and negative stories carry more ratings for them.

Because this world is such a negative place. No one cares about the good anymore. I can see why there is so much crime and suicide now because the people dwell on the negative and it drives people insane..

I have found that if I don't read the news or watch it on tv much, i am a much happier person. It never affects me and why should I feel stress over events which I can't control?
