Just about every place I have checked has the same price, does Apple stop them from price competition?

Stores generally don't discount below the price that they bought them at. (That would be silly, now wouldn't it) The margin on computers is very low, and all Apple products are cut to the BONE. You probably have seen little competition to get an iPod at different prices.

But you can try http://www.pricewatch.com and see if there is a lower priced vendor.

Apple does control the price, so you won't be able to save much no matter how hard you try. The MacBooks are very fairly priced compared to other brands when you consider all the things that are included. Why mess around. The MacBook is the most fun you can have with your clothes on.
