There are a number of reasons that people lie. The first is fear. This is the most common reason that people may lie, and they are taking shelter from a perceived punishment. It may be because they know they have done something wrong a single time, in which case it is not compulsive lying. But if they are always in fear of being punished, it may become a habit, which is a second reason for lying. In this case, it may become compulsive lying, which is lying by reflex. Even when confronted by the truth, they insist the lie is the truth in this case. A third case is learning to lie through modeling. When a people see others lie, especially when they get away with it, they may become more prone to lying. Finally, people lie because they feel if they tell the truth they won't get what they want. Thus, out of the main reasons for lying, only lying by habit can truly be called "compulsive lying."
if you mean making it stop that's almost impossible without seeing a mental health specialist and getting medication. Sometimes hypnosis help but it is hard to get affected person to seek help.

I used to have a friend like that, I got tired of calling her out on the lies. Finally, I told her that her compulsive lying was doing neither of us any good. I knew she was lying and she knew that I knew she was lying. For a while, She seemed to be doing well , not lying. Eventually, she went back to the lying and I could not take it anymore. We don't talk much anymore.

I was going to say that everyone does lie sometime throughout their life time. But by the sounds of this it isn't sometimes it seems like all the time. I hate to say this; but I doubt that she is truly a best friend. I mean you said your idea of a best friend is someone who is honest right? Well, then is she being truly honest with you? By the sounds of it no. She might also feel a bit hated by you or even jealous. I mean you got to go to a magnet school. She didn't, and that might of hurt her in some way, she might of felt torn apart by that. But that still is no excuse for lying this much to you. I hope this helps! :)

Nothing . Ask a specialist also , and you will have the same answer . People who lie don't want to be responsible for their misstakes ...that's why she gets upset .... It's a way of leaving ..sometimes people start to belive their lies ....

I had an ex friend that lied and stole all the time. Needless to say I distanced myself from her...completely. I don't know what she's doing now and I don't care to. My advice to you is to keep your distance from her and stop being her friend. She may end up stealing and lying from you too.

omg i have a friend just like that. but i know when she is lying she does it for attention...and it is so stupid. people dont want to be your friend when you lie...i dont get why they dont understand that. just tell her how you feel about it and that it bothers you and that there is no need in lying cause it makes you loose friends that you love with all your heart trust me i know...

eww I hate that... I know people that do that and it just drives me nuts.... I usually just agree and think inside that they are and idiot..
If this is a good friend though you should talk about it... Maybe they dont realize that everyone knows they are a liar..... Really, sometimes these people actually start to beleive their own lies.
She needs to be told or she is gonna end up very lonley cause no one will want to be around her. Just do your best to tell her or you will just have to tolerate it forever..Hope it go's well

My sister does that, she's a compulsive liar. You've just got to get used to it, eventually they'll get over it, or you'll just have to end the friendship, you can't go on being lied to

She's lying and definitely she has a reason.
Everyone does something for a reason.
Discover it.
