I did it once and earned 10 points... I didn't know this to be possible. But I tried to figure out how I could give it back because I just don't feel it right. Shouldn't other people make the vote instead of you voting your own answer?

I do not think of it as cheating. Think of it this way. A number of people answer a question, it goes to vote, a best answer is chosen. When someone needs help and searches Yahoo Answers, they come across the question and inevitably will read the Best Answer first or only. What if the Best Answer was incorrect? I've run into this many times before where my answer was clearly better. I could have not voted for myself and people could continue to get incorrect information, or I could strive to get the right information out there. Case in point:

On this question, I answered and so did another user. I actually answered the question and voted for myself. I didn't find that "Check out Google" was very informative. So, I and some other person voted for my answer. Clearly better. To feel less guilty, I could have voted for the other answer, but how would that help anyone?
I don't want everyone to think I'm an egomaniac. There have been PLENTY of times in which someone wrote a better answer and I voted for it.
If you are feeling guilty, just do a lot of voting on questions you never answered. So many people don't vote and there are thousands of undecided best answers floating about.

Actually its not cheating. Many times a person will not select a "Best Answer"; and the question will sit there, until Yahoo kicks it into the voting mode. At that point; you are allowed to vote for any answers, including your very own. Notice next time that the profiles are not attached. Therefore after re-reading the question and answers you are allow to vote and gain a point, for doing so. If you think your answer is the best, you are given the opportunity to select it. It's a win-win situation!

hey I do it too. I figure if the person who asked the question isn't going to choose a best answer, I might as well give myself a few extra points. It helps me to get more best answers later too b/c if everyone sees I have only had one or two best answers, they might think that I don't deserve the best answer. Don't feel guilty. Just like some other people above me said, every single president votes for himself, if he doesn't, then that one vote might make the other guy the president. If I don't vote for myself and no one else votes for a best answer, then those points are wasted.

No it is not cheating and e-mailing yahoo will not do you any good. Recently yahoo DID remove a person's right to vote on their own answers, in fact you were unable to vote on ANY answers to a question you had responded to. The result was chaos on the forums because people felt their answers were being left to disappear into cyber space.
A great many people who spent a long time researching and writing well thought out answers had to watch as their replies were left to in the 'unresolved' categories for months and months. it was felt that if you had bothered to spend time composing a reply then you were more likely to actually be interested in that topic, and to leave it in the hands of people who had little or no interest meant that the incorrect answers were more likely to be chosen. For example I spend a lot of time in alternative health because that is how I earn my living, therefore I have a greater interest in the right answers being selected than someone who has little or no knowledge of the topic. Leaving the Best Answrs to people with little knowledge of a subject defeated the object of yahoo answers, and eventually they gave us back the right to vote for our own answers. Naturally it is only wise to vote for your own answer if you really do consider it the best, quite often I will revisit questions I have answered and find another answer was better and more concise than mine, so I award that answer my vote.
I can't see Yahoo wanting to cause the furore their previous decision created so I don't see the right to vote for your own answers being taken away again anytime soon. Sorry.

Give that at any given time there are thousands of undecided questions in need of a vote-some ranging back as far as 4 months-I think that it is perfectly okay to vote yourself as best answer, especially if you think that your answer in the best. Go ahead and choose yourself, there is nothing wrong about that. Besides, if you don't make a vote, the question could be left undecided for months.

Hmmm...didn't know you could vote for yourself...but, I don't suppose it's cheating if you honestly review all the answers and still believe yours to be the best...only cheating if you after reviewing them all you know yours is not the best and you still vote for yourself..but no different for friends voting for other friends too...look..it's for fun...not for the Nobel Peace Prize....I really see no real problem..and sure as heck wouldn't worry about it or feel guilty...there are bigger things in life.

No its not. I give my answers because its what I feel is best to say. I love some of my answers. If they truly are the best I vote for me. If they are not I vote for the answer I feel is best.

Don't feel guilty, its meaningless points, not money.

How is it cheating? Unless you didn't give the best answer you possibly could, you gave your best answer. I always vote for myself, and I've one with just one vote cast for any answer.

Why let those points go to waste?

In an election, never make the mistake of not voting for yourself. Someone else might win.

It's not cheating. Yahoo gives you the option to vote your answer, so why not?
