Make sure that the printer is set at the default printer under printer properties. Also, before you print, go to the File and see if there is an option to set up the printer. If you just go to Print from File, it should open the printer options prior to the document printing. Make sure the printer you are using is listed on this window.

Check your printer driver settings. I have a 1300 driver installed on my machine and it works OK, so try it with the following settings.

Bring up printer properties and click on the Advanced tab
Make sure the following are ticked and NOTHING ELSE is ticked

Always Available
Spool print documents so program finishes printing faster
Start printing immediately
Enable advanced printing features

That should get you working. If not then you should get help from a technician who can come and visit the PC.

Hope this helps

This sounds like a problem with your computer, not with your printer.

Go to Control Panel > Printers, right-click on your hp1300, and set it as your default printer, if it's not your default printer already. When you print something, and the print dialog comes up, make sure that you've selected your hp1300, and not the Microsoft Document Imagewriter or something else.

If that's not the problem, you'll need to write down exactly what software you're using, what steps you're taking when you print, and what you see on your screen. When you say "it tells me I have to..." - what software is telling you, and exactly what does it say?
