SHOULD READ VINEGAR (white)

run an empty load with hot water and a cup of VINEGAR. This should clean out the machine, then find your filters and empty all the grey goo out of them. I clean my filters at least once a month.

Sometimes fabric softeners leave residues in the machine.

Also take your washing out as soon as the machine has finished. Washing tends to smell of left wet for a few hours.

a couple of things.

Buy a good Detergent, (Like Tide®). We've bought cheap soap before and if clothes sit over night they wreak. Rewash with Tide the smell go away. Empty the load after it's done and put the clothes in the dryer right away.

Run whites on a separate load with a cup of Clorox, the smell will disappear.

The worst thing it to let clothes sit.

Use one cup of bleach and fill washer with water and let it set for awhile then finish the cycle. After washing clothes do not close the lid on the washer, leave it open so the tub can air dry.

I have had that problem also. You could try running a cycle with bleach or white vinegar. I found that what was causing the odor was when I left the lid closed. It is air tight and doesn't dry out. Try that.

Matthew has it, also, keep the lid up when not in use allowing the moisture to evaporate between use. If the problem continues, the mold may be behind the panel. Remove the lower panel and look in.

If it's a front load it's very important to use an HE detergent. Using regular detergent in a front load will cause this problem. Follow any of the listed cures first.
