There are so many but I would have to say

Spandau Ballet, Adam and the Ants and Duran Duran!

To sum up the eighties to a tee!

Has to be Dire Straits - included pop, rock and melodic soulful pieces. Played at Live Aid, and Brothers In Arms sold more than any other album!

Brothers in Arms was also the first CD single, and the song referenced the Falklands War of 1982.

A lot of the bands are still rocking and making music to this day so it's hard to pick.

I would say that the Culture Club is a true 80s mascot to me.
They had their biggest hits during that time and wore the makeup and outfits of the 80s.

The "80s" is is such a vast field to follow, that only one band wouldn't do it.
For the hair band scene, I would have to go with Poison.
For metal, it would be Metallica, which evolved and showed that the world was changing.
For the Pop scene, Madonna would easily be the top of the ehap for her influence on fashion, dance, music, and world order.
The Synth-pop crowd would have to agree that either Kaja-googoo or Flock of Seagulls would be their defining band, for the fashion that stuck through the decade, and the music that they influenced.

Selecting just one is very difficult as there were so many different types of music but I choose The Boss, Bruce Springstein.

Have a look for yourself at the great artists that were at their peak in the 80s.

I would have to say Madonna. She hit her stride in the eighties and kept re-inventing her self. She even had some crossover appeal with Black and White audiences
