I personally would let him grow out of it b.c i would not want to put both of my children through surgery that would suck for him and you! I think the doctor that put the tubes in your 7yr old son must have been a real dumb-*** (no offense). Anyway... i think you should let him grow out of it. Don't take the risk of it happening to him too!

Do it........I really don't think that there is very much risk in this, it is unfortunate that sometimes things do go wrong, but if it were my child I would definately do it. The doc. gave my parents this optioin for me (I got an ear infection about 10 times a year) and it was fairly new then so they said no. I am now 24 and still get ear infections (only about 2 a year now) but they kill and if my child has ear infections as much as I did I am definately going to get tubes in her ears!

Put them in! Ear infections can cause hearing loss - permanent. That could also lead to problems with speach later on in life. I had ear tubes, in both ears because I kept getting bad ear infections and they fell out.
Don't let one bad experience stop you with your 2nd child. The doctor suggested it for the child health. I know it is scary, but it's a diff doctor and technology is furhter advanced even from 7 yrs ago.
I'll be praying for your little guy

Use the last doctor you used even if he is a long drive away. If he doesn't get the tubes you could be in for all sorts of other health problems. I've had them in and out twice, and unfortunately we also had a crummy doctor at first who left a whole in my right ear drum. Eventually we found another doctor, who was also a bit of a drive away, who helped correct it. I'm now 29 and I hear just fine in both ears.

my first son lost the hearing in his right ear from ear infections with the tubes he got it back. my second son by 18 months had 16 ear infections again we got tubes. he still had ear infections with tubes. for some reason he don't get fevers or complain of pain so we have to guess when he gets a runny nose he has 1 but anyway he got 1 so bad his ear drums ruptured. so the tube thing is iffy. if you go with them make sure its a different doc then before.

I have four kids ages 7 to 17. I recommend not getting them because they seem to cause more problems than they solve. Instead try to keep their ears dry, and if they do get a persistent ear infection, make sure it gets treated correctly. If a Doctor prescribes antibiotics, make sure you keep administering it until the until prescription is gone (i.e. don't stop when they feel better). The way I look at it, generation of kids, myself included, have survived ear infections/earaches just fine before tubes came along. Just keep the ear dry and you'll be fine - don't let them lay in the bathwater.

My 14 year old has had tubes in his ears 4 times.1 time the tube did get stuck in his ear and had to be removed. He needs tubes now and I can not wait for him to get them.4 ear infections in 6 months could be from you not giving her medicine exactly as percribed or skipping doses.Or it could be from cheap medicine like amoxicillian.Or from doctor not switching her to another medicine after the first one failed to clear up the ear infection.I do hope you get the tubes done if really needed.,Children who needs tubes to clear the fluids will lose some hearing after sometime.

Wow that is a bad experience, but I have heard nothing but good thing for kids that have had it done. He may never grouw ot of having ear infections, they are one of the most painfull things to have, if there is a way to prevent i would do it, and ensure the doctor doing this proceedure knows your concerns and previous experience and ensure he is getting the tubes that fall out on there own, not painfull..
good luck

We did the tubes for our second baby at 18 months. She's 3 now and we're waiting for the tubes to come out now, but she's fine. I say as far as your concerns go, it's probably a good idea to go with the tubes. Just find a really good ENT to do it.
Good luck!

Let him grow out of it from my experience when your that young you get a lot of ear infections. I remember when I was a kid and I had ear infections a lot but they eventually went away. So let your kid grow out of it. Sounds like his older brother had a really tough time. Doctors are also getting really careless these days from what I understand from watching the news. So let your kid grow out of it. He will eventually be okay. Here is a site that has useful home remedies that other people have tried and rated check it out http://www.myhomeremedies.com/topic.cgi?topicid=74
