If I select to restore my computer to it's factory settings, will I lose all my files? Because it will not run in normal mode and only in safe mood. It says something about a memory dump when I attempt to start it normally. Any ideas folks?

generally if you can get in in safe mode then there is some kind of confilct going on with either new hardware or software maybe a new driver. logging on in safe mode disable alot of things so that you are only using what the computer really needs no extras. what you need to figure out is whats causing the problem. have you added anything new to the computer or done any updates.
depending on what kind of restore your talking you may or may not lose everything. if you are going to reinstall the OS and format the HD then you will lose it all. if you are just restoring the factory defaults you wont lose your files or data. what will happen though is alot of your third party programs will need to be reinstalled you may have to update some drivers.
i suggest posting the memory dump error here or search it on the net. thats what i would do before a reformat or factory reset.
good luck

restart and touch the f8 button every second or so try the last known good config option. If you use the restore that came with windows you will not lose files if they are saved, but make sure you close down "all" running programs except the ones that windows needs to run.

You can try to restor back to last known good config. But if the manufacter gave you restore disks and you do a factory restore this will make it like when you got it out of the box. Hence your data will be lost/deleted.

Always back up your files. You never know what a computer is going to do with a system restore. Sometimes you get to keep files, sometimes it wipes you clean.

If you select the destructive option you will lose everything that you put on the computer. If you select the non-destructive option you will be fine. You will not lose any files.
