Hi there,

I suggest buying envelopes, have the kids decorates them, tie them up on some pretty ribbon and have them place little treats inside. It is used by the parents to count down christmas. 25 envelopes with treats in them. Gets the parents excited too. You can also instead of treats put sayings or a word for the day in it.

A couple of Christmas ornament ideas:

Take the small plastic dosing cup from a product like Pepto-Bismol or Day-Quil and have the children glue a small brown pompom into it. Top that pompom with a white pompom, gluing it on. Then add two small lengths of the thin straws that are used by bars and hotels in serving mixed drinks. It looks like an ice cream soda with two straws. Add a length of ribbon or gold cording for hanging.

Take a wooden curtain ring and glue a picture of the child on one side, with the metal hook ring at the top. Tie a pretty ribbon through the ring top.

Cover styrofoam balls with paper mache made from skin-colored paper. When dry, have children use markers to draw their faces on the balls. Let them use old string, curly ribbon, pieces of fabric (maybe like chenille), or anything else that might make good hair--or maybe they'll want just to draw it on.

you know... I always wanted an embroidery machine.... people make the nicest home made gifts with those things. Or, you can get someone to do them for you for cheap. for the baby girl you could do a blanket, or diaper bag with her initial on it, and that also helps out mom... for the 3 little boys, you could do toboggans and gloves with their favorite character on them.... teenage girl, there are some REALLY NICE home made purses out there... go to ebay for some ideas, then head off in the other direction and learn to make them your self. Aunt, Uncle, MOM DAD... make dinner one night and have everyone over... or do homemade goody plates, with cookies, chex mix, fudge, nuts, peanut butter balls.... etc. This is what make christmas wonderful at our house... all the cooking. It wouldnt be christmas if our house didnt smell like Ham, Fudge, sweet potatoes, cookies being baked.... or you could even learn to make a New pie and give that out to the older family and inlaws. I gave orange juice cake one year, made from a bundt pan... and I went to the local salvation army for the "holiday glass plates" that I gave them on. It was about a 3 dollar gift per person, including the plate. But it turned out very nicely. Of course if you dont like to cook.... good luck. Hope I was some help tho!

Maybe you could find the recipe for that dough you bake so they can make ornaments.

The picture frame idea is a good one!

Christmas cookies?

A mosiac- many kinds of "craft" materials - beads, buttons, shells, macaroni, yarn, ribbon, old puzzle pieces, glitter, sequins etc. The sky is the limit here!

How about using playdoh and having the kids imprint their hand into it; you can use different shaped scissors (plastic is good for the little ones-or have an adult cut) then put a small hole at the top and use yarn or heavy string to attach.

Use stuff around the house and buy some stuff at the 99 cent store and combine it together making a whole new invention for you and everyone. Make them think if its arts & crafts.

white t-shirt
fabric paint
stencils (or hands)
brushes or sponges
pushpins
cardboard (to put inside t-shirt)

for older kids you could use a bleach pen (opened and in glass bowl). make sure you use colored t-shirt and wash when the color gets right (up to 10 hours with watered down bleach pen)

it's fun for adults, too!

Anything with pictures of the kids. It's fun to take a picture of the child and make copies, then apply the cutout of their faces to whatever you can come up with. For Christmas you could have them cut out shapes of elves, angels, ornaments, etc., and glue their faces to the shapes. If you wanted to get fancier, you could have bits of yarn the color of hair and ribbon for them to glue on. If you had bits of fabric, you could have them dress "themselves". They could also make ornaments for the tree with yarn stapled on for hanging. They could glue glitter or whatever to the ornaments, they could cut out the shape of a star with their pictures decorated on them. Have fun!
