How to play a DAT file?

I've got a CD with music/videoclips. It's a DAT file. It's fine on my DVD player, but I can'te play in on my computer

I tried to play it with WindowsMediaPlayer and RealPlayer, but it doesn't work.

Any suggestions on a free download program that would enable me to play it on my computer (Windows2000)

Use PowerDVD to play the DAT file.

I wouldn't recommend Quicktime and Real Player because they are full of bugs and could infect your system badly.

I'd suggest your downloading, from http://home.hccnet.nl/h.edskes/finalbuilds.htm
and installing the K-Lite Mega Codec Pack [34 MB version]that comes with Media Player Classic. The combo makes it capable of playing any and all media, including Real and Quicktime! The original Media Player from which all these Media Players have now grown, the Media Player Classic is robust and lightweight.

I'd suggest that you uninstall all other players other than Windows Meida Player [because it's part of the OS] when you install Media Player Classic. Having more than 2 Media Players onboard is dangerous because they could get into conflict and ruin your computer.

Media Player Classic will play .dat files.

Copy it to harddrive and rename it to .mpg. then try with media player.
Or otherwise try installing PowerDVD or Jetaudio and opening with them. it'll work
