There is the memory song, I have used it as a drinking game but it doesn't need to be done that way.

The first goes:

I had a rooster as cocky as could be
I hung my rooster on the memory tree
My little rooster went cockadoodledoodledoodle etc (sorry I can't give you the tune)

Then each person has to add a verse whatever they like, eg

I had a President as fascist as could be
I hung George Bush on the memory tree
My little Georgie went 'Invade Iraq'
My little rooster went cockadoodle etc...

each person adding a new verse has to append the last lines of the preceeding ones and sing the whole thing without a mistake - it's really quite fun and more challenging than you would think to make them up so they scan properly on the spur of the moment.

Person 1 - "i went to the shops and bought a cabbage"
Person 2 - "i went to the shops and bought a cabbage and an aronge"
Person 3 - " i went to the shops and bought..."

Go round in a circle and when its your turn you have to remember, in order, all the items everyone else said and then add your own at the end. Longer the game goes on the harder it gets. The objects on the 'shopping list' can be as far out as you want, eg - a sailing boat, a builder's shirt...etc (doesn't have to just be food).

Hope this helps xx

There is a great memory survey on the BBC website which tests your memory and includes a memory word section.

my grandpa used to listen to a CD that would help with his memory. it was made specifically to help adults with their memory and improve it. i think it was called MindSwitch and it came with a workbook packet to fill out as you listened to the CD.
