Des Lynam is leaving, the favourite to replace him at the moment is Des O'Connor.

I think Tom O'Connor would be good. Or has he died? I never liked Des Lynam on Countdown, he just didn't seem to fit.

It is true. I read in the Daily Express (so it must be true !!!) that most of the people asked to take it over, including Michael Aspel and Stephen Fry, have turned it down, saying that Richard Whiteley made the programme his own, and could not be replaced. I would agree, especially if it got rid of Carol Vorderman. She is so cheeky.

Yup, like others have said, he can't stand driving from London to Leeds to do the show, and the producers won't move it. Noel Edmonds was offered the show before he got Deal or No Deal, but he's quite happy with that, other's touted are Carol Vorderman (declined again, she's happy doing the math not the presenting) Stephen Fry, Eamon Holmes (Please god no, can't stand his pudgy face)
Les Dennis, Rick Wakeman and Janet Street-Porter.....personally I'd like somebody like Ronnie Corbett - he'd be good..he'd have to sit on several cushions though!!

Yes, thank the Lord..sometimes your prayers are answered. I couldn't stand him.
I think Des O'Connor would do a good job. Who wants Carol Vorderman off next?? Jade Goody would be a better replacement for her.

Yes its true. Des O'Conner and Noel Edmunds are top tips for his replacement but I reckon Stephen Fry would be cool.

I read somewhere that he was, but before that he had considerd moving the show somewhere near his home but its a bit too expensive all that moving around so he has probably thought sod it Ill just not do it.
Bet he is on loads of money!

Yes he is leaving at Christmas.
His replacement has not yet been named.
Noel Edmonds was 2nd choice last time so might get it this time, if he wants it.
