It depends where in Hawaii you live. If you live in Hilo, like I used to, you could live on less than $1000 a month. But now that I live on Oahu, there is no way I could do it. My rent costs more then that, and it's only a one bedroom apartment.
When I lived in Hilo, I made about $800 a month, and my rent was only $450 for a two bedroom apartment. Most places are cheap there, but it's hard to find jobs in Hilo.

You could do it... if you don't mind living like a bum.

One of my friends was workin a job only getting about 600 every two weeks. She paid 300 to rent a room a month.. she had to share that small room with 2 other girls.. sleeping on a bunk bed. Had to take the bus everywhere.. 40 dollars for a bus pass. Never could go out and do anything or we'd always have to pay for her.

I did it for 5 years. (I make much more now)

It all depends on your lifestyle choices and expensive hobbies, etc. If you like cars, beer and pot, you're out of luck.
