Geosynchronous refers to the orbit of the satellite.
It means that the speed and direction of the orbit matches the earth's rotation, so a geosychronous satellite would always be fixed over the same location on the ground, 24/7, which is why you can align your satellite dish to a fixed point and get the good TV shows.

a geosynchronous satellite is a satellite moving in a circular orbit in he plane of the equator at such a distance that its orbital period is synchronous wit the rotational period of the earth (24H).
Such a satellite will then appear to be fixed over a specific longitude. Moreover, a system of three such geostationary or geosynchronous satellites, can provide line-of-sight communications between any two points ont he earth.
The idea of using geosychronous satelites for relaying communication was first mooted by Arthur C. Clarke, the renowned SF author back in 1945.

think of the earth rotating ....
think of a satellite orbiting the earth ....
a satellite over one specific place on earth moves at EXACTLY the same speed as the rotating earth (if over DC.. its always over DC)
when the satellite travels over a specific place, it is matching the speed of the rotation of the earth at that latitude
(it need to travel faster at the equator, slower at the poles...)
