The ones that take that long want to look their best for the party (or wherever they are going.) Hair doesn't style itself, makeup doesn't magically appear on the face, and finding the perfect outfit is 70% of the look.
Besides, not all women take that long to get ready. And some men are just as bad about taking forever to get ready to go somewhere.

Not every girl take 2 to 3 hours to get dress. Some take longer because they can't make up their minds on what to put on. Girls like to look different and unique/special from the other girls and look attractive in the same way. You don't see girls and their girlfriends wearing the same outfit. Some will probably go fighting over that the outfit looks the best on them. If you see guys wearing the same outfit, they will think they're brothers.

We don't all take that long all the time. When we do it's because that's part of the experience. If it's a really special event we like to pamper ourselves and take our time to make the experience last and to make sure we are at our best for the event.
Besides would you rather have your girl looking like a racoon or a sexy little vixen;)

Many people take considerable pleasure in looking their best and if looking good makes you feel good it is not wasted time at all.
Additionally, the process of getting ready, especially if friends are around to help or chat to can be just as much fun as the event that people are preparing for.
I don't do it myself but I can easily understand that if that is what people enjoy there is no harm in it.

lol. i don't know what kind of girls u hang around but the longest I've ever done is a half hour they probably just want to look good for you guys

not me, takes me 25 mins to shower and do make-up before work. An hour to get ready for a special function.

they must be pretty slow, at best i need an hour to get ready ....3, 4 hours is pathetic.

Firstly we take our time to look our best , and secondly ,I know some very hetrosexual men who take more than that to get done.
