I'm currently on my second round of 50mg of clomid on days 3-7. I think it worked last month because for the first time ever, i had a 30 day cycle. However, my doc chose not to do a follicle scan to check the egg...so i guess that there is a chance i ovulated, just maybe the egg wasn't large enough, or some other factor came into play. Anyway, my doc wanted me on 100mg this month, but for numerous reasons I decided to stay on 50mg again and have him do a follicle scan next thurs (day 13). For all i know, the 50 was working and there is no reason for me to increase quite yet. What exactly is done during a follicle scan? Is it done by a vaginal ultrasound, where that wand is inserted? I hear they measure your egg...but what determines if you are ready for conception? Just looking for more info on the process. Thanks And do you agree that there is a chance the 50mg was working?

I've had 2 vaginal u/s while on Clomid to check my follicles. From what I understand, they are checking the size of the follicles to determine whether I ovulated or not, but I don't know if they can know how many eggs are released from an u/s. Also, my OB checks the size of my ovaries to make sure they aren't hyperstimulated from the Clomid.

I took Clomid for 9 months to conceive my daughter. I started out at 50mg, but the dosage was gradually increased. By the time I conceived, I was up to 200mg. However, there were other medical factors that interfered with conception. After 6 months of ttc, my OB also gave me hcg injections on days 14 & 21 of my cycles.

I am on my 4th round of Clomid and hcg injections ttc again. I am still on 50mg because my bbt charts, along with my u/s, have shown that I am ovulating. If you are ovulating at 50mg, then there is no reason to increase the dosage. You may want to consider charting your basal body temperature. You can learn how to do this and chart for free at fertilityfriend.com. The charts are useful tools to show your OB while ttc.

Good luck!

YES YES YES! I can not stress the importance enough of getting an ultrasound to check for follicle production before ovulation. Alot of doctors will put women on clomid and do not monitor them and it is SO dangerous to do. Even with it not being that "strong" of a fertility medication it is still possible a woman can get hyper ovulation. Most doctors recommend having a baseline u/s as well and that is an u/s when you start your next cycle (if you do start) to make sure you have no residual follicles. I had a doctor that didnt monitor me for follicle production. On my 2nd round of 50mg of clomid, I got hyper ovarian stimulation syndrome and produced too many eggs and as a result I am pregnant with triplets. I had excruciating pain when I ovulated too, but by then the "seed" was planted so I have to advocate to everyone I hear of doing clomid that they INSIST on being monitored while on clomid. Good luck!

The ultrasound is vaginally where they insert the wand, basically feels like a pap smear. They measure your follicles and can see how big they are and they will know if the egg is ready to be released or not. In a lot of cases if you're getting ready to ovulate they will give you a hcg shot to induce ovulation. You could have ovulated on 50 mg, if they didn't check they wouldn't know for sure. I also did my temp every morning to pinpoint if I ovulated.

there is a chance that 50mg may do for you.
