I have always been a singer, until my child was born. He is now a pre-schooler.

The call of the stage has always been in my blood. It's about being able to share a gift that lifts people up, soothes them and blesses them. I am told by everyone that I am wasting my talent by not using it. Now there is a local contest which I keep getting phonecalls to participate in - including people in the industry!

My husband however thinks it is stupid and I should be my age (33) and know my responsabilities. That makes me feel like my talent is cheap & my dreams should be set aside because I am married, so I have not done it - and allowing anyone to make me feel like THAT really pisses me off!

There are people who have offered to assist on the odd occasion where I would not be home for the night. My child is in daycare in the daytime.

Should I do it?

No be practical, all that "Shoot for your dreams" nonsense isnt going to get you there.

Your husband is right only in the sense that you have to be responsible, youre a mother, you have a baby. But that does NOT by any means mean you cant have a life or dreams. Too bad if he wants you to be the kind of mother that stays home all the time, you have to do something that makes you happy. Like in Kate Chopins story Silk Stockings, instead of spending this extra extra cash on her children (who werent by any means in serious need) she bought herself some shoes, and cake and a nice day.
Mothers especially need to remember that thier lives arent soley being mothers. You will be one forever, but youre still a woman, a friend, a daughter and a wife, so why only be a mother, especially when the very inside of you wants you to be something more, something else.
If you have a window, you better take it. If you dont, you will regret it forever. Your child will survive in day care, your husband will be fine putting him/her to bed for an evening, but will you be fine if you pass it up?

You are never too old to do something that will make you happy, and you have to try. Even if you dont make it, you have to try.

Your husband may not get it now, but he will.

Good luck

Well, I wouldn't say it's stupid, but it is kind of silly to go chasing after a dream that more than likely won't pan out, especially at your age. Sounds like this is more of a priority than your child and if things did work out, he/she would be in daycare during the day and with somebody else at night? Very selfish on your part.

Two things I see and hear. Do not ever beleive that your talent is cheap. Pursue a dream because you will only end up resenting yourself or your husband in the end if you do not take the plunge. It sounds like your husband has some unfulfilled dreams there and resents something for them so for him to demean yours that tells me that he makes himself feel better. GO FOR IT!!!!!!!!!

Yes , until you have your heads on your shoulder ,and can take off responsibility and prove your husband wrong ! If you have that determination and the drive , then nothing will stop you..! You need to mentally eradicate all doubts!

The keyword is INDIVIDUAL INDEPENDENCE with A SENSE OF RESPONSIBILITY !

All the best!

I think you should however, i do not live in your house with you and do not have to deal with your husband and his lack of wanting you to pursue your career. Will this cause you a great deal of stress in your marriage, and if yes, is it worth it to you? that is the questions you need to ask yourself. Pray about it. Good luck and God bless.

Yes, follow your dreams and shame on your husband for trying to smother them.
