I can be kinda dense at times, so if someone sugar coats something, I sometimes don't get it completely. So I'd rather them be straight up with me so there's no misunderstandings.

It depends on what the news is. I'd prefer "your car was in an accident" sugar-coated and "your sister died in car accident" straight up.
