I have only had problems with refilled ink cartridges. The low price is no compensation for the printer problems you may encounter.

You can refill them (if you can find a ink kit for your particular printer), but not too many times. You should also fill them before the ink runs out because the ink will dry & cake inside the cartridge.
There is a better solution available if you want to save money. Look in your local Yellow Pages and see if there are any places which sell re-manufactured cartridges or a place which refills ink cartridges. I don't know where you live, but there's a company called Island Inkjet that has a lot of franchises in the U.S. and Canada that refills ink cartridges. They fill the cartridge while you wait and also offer a 30 day money back guarantee. I haven't tried that place yet, so I can't really make a recommendation.
The link is below.

There is a franchise called Cartridge World they have refills available all you need to do is give them your old cartridge and they will give you a refilled one for about half the price. They work well.

It is messy, but once you learn how to fill them you can save about 90% of the cost.
I think the printer companies almost give away their printers just to sell the ink!

You can fill them over and over but eventually the head wears out so I switched to a laser printer. Saves you money in the long run.

You can save but most of the time the ink dries inside and don't last a week.
