Lockjaw (tetanus); TMJ (Temporal Mandibular Jaw Syndrome); severe dehydration causing facial muscle cramping); or adverse reaction to certain prescription medicines (which can also cause the jaw to stiffen AND spasm),
(Or maybe you've been doing a lot of public speaking or talking---or have you just been using your mouth for other things ?)

It's common name is "clicky jaw". Just means your jaw bone is'nt lined up correctly. It's a pig when it locks in mid-yawn ! Or do you mean the more serious condition of lockjaw?

It is TMJ, my wife has it. Depending on the severity, either a hot pack or a heat lamp helps.
