What is morose and dirgy to you is great to someone else, if we all liked the same thing life would be very boring.

Music appeals to the listeners mood. Which brings me to this insightful conclusion. If the person listens to REM and Moby, it could be because their taste in music is in that vein. However, it does not mean that they are suicidal or depressed. I listen to A Perfect Circle, Tool, as well as Goth Metal, that does not mean that I am suicidal and have somewhat bipolar tendencies. I listen to that stuff because it fits well with what I am goin through in life.

REM and Moby aren't morose, i mean, if you listen to some of their tracks, they are quite catchy. I agree that they are used a lot in adverts, but still, its good music. It takes all things to make the world go round.
You could just as easily single out grunge or goth music... :-)

I don't think either are morose. i don't much like Moby but REM are amazing - their longevity in the industry reflects this. As for the comment on teenage angst - they don't listen to REM - they watch Dawson's Creek.

And why not?? REM happen to be one of the best bands around. Have seen them live several times and they are fantastic! And I'm trying very hard to think of an advert that has an REM song in it??!

Moby is a paedophile. If you can find a copy of the free UK mag "Making Music" which includes his interview, he argues that artists such as himself and Gary Glitter should have free and unrestrained access to paedophilic pornography as they will judge it by its "artistic merits". Could it be that all his fans are artistic paedos as well?

It would appear that you have heard a limited number of REM tracks. They have an amazing back catalogue of songs, most of which are upbeat and uplifting.
In terms of Moby................I would not know, as I am too busy dancing, singing and clapping my hands to REM to worry about that morbid so and so.

Moby can be boring, but R.E.M.? One of the best american bands of the last 30 years? Ok so not all of their stuff is 5* genius ( that last album wasn't one of their best!), but to write off their whole catalogue suggests you have heard only one song!

And you like......Who?!? In the end of the day it's down to peoples own preference. I like Moby because I find him good to listen to when I want to chill out, I saw him in Concert as well and he was pretty good =P

I think its a teenage '...the world hates me & no one understands life like I do' moment. Teenagers all go through a Kevin & Perry period. I just wish mine would snap out of it...we think he'll be a grandparent before he grows up!!!
