i have heard that by 2010 there is going to be another building on ground zero surely it should be left as ground zero. i think that it should not be built on because of all the people that died there it should be left like that as a mark of repect and as a place for relitives to go and remember there loved ones who died on that awful day.
what do you think?
do you agree or do you think it should have another building built on top thats going to take away all the memories. i no there bad memories but surely as a mark of respect it should be left.
please dont be offended by this i only wanted to know what other people think about this.
thanks

i totally agree with you, regardless of real estate, this would be very disrespectful to build on ground zero, better to have a memorial garden or something, than think amount money. lots of people lost their lives through no fault of they're own, families lost loved ones and they need another building! like hell they do!!!

The memories will fade or not fade based on the individuals, not on whether there is a new structure built at the site. As a mark of respect to the dead? Where do you draw the line? Are the dead of some little obscure Civil War battle less noble or worthy than Gettysburg? The dead of the Pentagon less so than the WTC? I simply disagree that re-building is a mark of disrespect to the victims of the attack.

Of course it should... life goes on. The cities of Dresden in Germany & Coventry in England were flattened during the second world war, but subsequently rebuilt. I think the rest of the world has grown tired of America's mourning over 911. It was recently estimated that 655,000 civilians have died in Iraq since the US-lead invasion. Perhaps they should build a memorial to those civilians too on 'ground zero'?

Yes, way more iraqi and afghan civillians have died because of the ensuing wars, but eventually they will need to rebuild their countries.

People observe a minute of silence every year for the victims of 11/9 (british format), but no one bats an eyelid for the millions of wrecked lives that have resulted because of the war. Western lives more precious?

Anyway, ground zero must be built on, so that people can get on with their lives. By leaving it as a shrine, it's sending a subliminal message of hate.

Yes, but next time construct a building bigger than the last two.

Show the world that when you get hurt you come back stronger!

The new building would be the memorial to those that died.

Not that I agree with it, but realestate prices in New York are way too high for them to leave ground zero alone. There will be a memorial and the buildings will go around it. It is right in the heart of NY, no one is going to leave it undeveloped.

Yes it should be built. There can a memorial or something on the ground, but the fact that we have rebuilt and moved on says that America will not be beaten. Especially by a bunch of rag head zealots.

I think it should be left for several years, at least while it is still in the memory of `living` people. In years to come it should be built on, the site is too strategic to remain unused. At the present time, it is a grave site and should not be altered.

You should build a memorial, or a new set of twin towers. Failing that, any building should be on stilts, keeping ground zero as a memorial itself.

no perhaps not for the sake of the folk who lost loved ones but you can bet with the NYSE just a short distance away reminds you that the site is at a premium and it doesn't need to be Einstein to work out the eventual out come in a few years. finance always dominates
