You're doing the right thing in believing your own eyes and ears and long may you continue doing so. I always like to look at all aspects of an arguement regarding all matters and try to use logic to arrive at an opinion (although I have to admit that occasionally it's just a gut reaction!). The media attempts to influence the the way we think and, therefore, what we believe, and it's a powerful brainwashing tool that bends the masses by its strength.

Everyone has an agenda. I think it is impossible to say that a particular view is wrong (except when lies are exposed).
My sugestion is to read from different sources if you can but even this can be difficult when the media corporations are global and owned by a surprisingly small number of people.
For example, when the Pope or our leaders start "preaching" to us about islam, then make the effort to find out about islam from muslims.
Some suggestions below...

You already have a way of determining "truth" for yourself--you have dismissed the Holy Bilble as "false", so you obviously have a method. Apply that same method to everything--media intake, personal relationships, job performance. I think you will be sorely disappointed. What is your truth? Your compass? Your way of determining right and wrong? Sort this out, then news intake becomes a side issue.

I guess your best bet would be researching on the net, You can view international sites and read what the rest of the world is saying. Also, I watch BBC news on PBS. I find they have a better grasp on reality.
It has been noted by journalists that American views on the middle east is peculiar and unique. They say that not even the Israelis have such unusual notions concerning the Muslims. Is it a wonder why so many Americans are so ignorant and bigoted?

The truth will always be a stranger when government owns the bbc, murdoch owns fox news and his newspapers all over the world and ted turner is no angel.

Don't believe anyone :-)
Every single fact that you hear from another person is going to be filtered by their prejudice/bias. it may be as simple as not understanding what is going on and imposing their own views on a scene. or it may be a deliberate attempt at 'spin'
Even statistics can be grossly misleading.
The best you can do is recognise that prejudice and try and work around it.

i cannot offer you the truth, but a way to skim off the rubbish the media offers. ask who they are, how they benefit from what they say and who suffers as a result of it.
read a non-commercial source of news, but recognise that they have an agenda too

Trust yourself. You obviously can't trust anyone or anything else. If there is falsehood in the Bible it is due to man's intepretation and mistranslation. Perhaps, you are just too paranoid to be able to trust. A good rule of thumb, "Trust only those who stand to lose as much as you".
