There are a lot of animal shelters that are looking for help. Talk to someone at a shelter and start there. Depending on where you live some even have veterinarians and behaviorists on site. I am sure you could volunteer or even work for them. Let them know why you are looking into that type of work, and they may suggest you do specific things to help you decide whats best for you.

I am an equine message therapist, and am in my 4th year of veterinarian school, but still not sure what type of animals I want to specialize in. I personally am leading more toward an equine vet, but I don't mind smaller or larger animals either.

Have you ever thought about working at a zoo? Or a specific disease? Structure, form and function of animals are divided into the following categories: anatomist, microbiologists, epidemiologist, parasitologist, pathologist, pharmacologist, toxicologist and physiologist. I have to admit there are certainly too many areas to specialize in. Check out these sites. Hope it helps. Good Luck with your future!

First of all the 10 grade is not too late. I am 59 and I am not sure what I want to be when I grow up. Read all you can about animal work. Start with wikipedia and work from there. Then decide if you want to get a collage education to do animal work (that will pay the best) or if you want to go right to work with them while you decide what you are going to do. In that case check vets offices and zoos. They hire and train high school grads. Take a good look around and try different things. The big thing is to end up doing something you love. It may take you a while to end up with that. Slow down and enjoy being were your are. Good luck

There are lots of jobs involving animals. I was EXACTLY the same as you, I knew I wanted to work with animals, but I didnt know what I wanted to do. Vet Medicine was too hard to get into because of the qualifications needed, I don't know what these are in the States (I'm Scottish) I eventually decided on dog grooming and its great. HARD WORK but great lol. You can also look at stable management, equestrian medicine, zoology, marine biology, kennel work. The list goes on. Just keep checking the net and I'm sure you will come across something. But be prepared - any job involving animals will take up LOTS of your time and you have to be 100% committed and have a genuine love for animals, coz sometimes they dont love you back lol! Good Luck!

Take 4 h club in school. And animal husbandry. Contact a local vet and volunteer for after school it will fall into place.Start your own business of watching pets while people are away or walk them while there at work. People love there babies they'll pay to have someone break up the lonely day for them. I do that now It pays well.

I'm a sophomore, too, and have thought about the same thing:
vet, biologist, someone who works in a zoo, dog walker, pet sitter, animal shelter/rescue/sanctuary owner/worker, vet tech, vet assistant....
the list goes on and on.
If you're sure that you want to work with animals, start getting experience around them (walking dogs, volunteering at the SPCA, etc.)

If you live near a kennel, you could ask if they need help feeding and caring for the animals. :) Also, some vets hire someone to drop in and feed when they're too busy.

My brother used to work at Louisville Downs taking care of horses. He loved it.

Good luck to you!

Volunteer at an animal shelter. They need the help. Cleaning, socializing, lugging around bags of dog food, exercising dogs, etc. It also looks good when you put it on college applications.

you could study animals and then become a animal behaviorist..zoologist, you could work with sick animals or taking care of animals...vet,vet assistant, animal protection agency...hmm..you could also for now walk dogs, volunteer at the SCPA,
you could also check out the american kennel club if you wanted to get involved in dog training or showing..things like that...good luck!
