Because its expensive, risky and what would be the point we have already seen it and taken samples. It's just a huge lump of dead rock. Presidents who make big space announcements are just trying to deflect people's attention away from dodgy domestic and foreign policies, especially when they give them fancy names like Star Wars or Man on Mars.

1) The "moon race" was an extension of the cold war. It was mostly about national prestige. We got there first and achieved our primary objective. There was some good science: surveys, measurements, sample collection. But it was mostly about being there first. Once we achieved our primary objective, there was no political will to go back. There still isn't. Perhaps, if we discover He3 or something else valuable, there will be.

2) In 1972, there was a politically motivated burglary of a hotel room in the Watergate Hotel in Washington, D.C. There were only about six or eight people who knew about it. However, those people, including Richard M. Nixon, the President of the United States, failed to keep that burglary a secret. It exploded into a scandal that drove the President and a number of others from office.

If six or eight people couldn't keep a hotel room burglary a secret, then how could literally thousands of people could have kept their mouths shut about six faked moon landings? Not just one moon landing, but six of them!

3) Even if NASA and other government agencies could have faked the six moon landings well enough to fool the general public, they could NOT have fooled the space agency or military intelligence types in the USSR. The Soviets were just dying to beat us. If the landings were faked, the Soviets would have re-engineered their N-1 booster and landed on the moon just to prove what liars Americans are. Why didn't they? Because the landings were real and the Soviets knew it.

They have returned.

There were several moon landing missions.

Apollo 11 was the first Apollo 17 the last. Further landings after 17 were cancelled presumably as the US had more pressing issues to deal with such as the Vietnam war.

People became disillusioned with the high cost and the fact that, once you get over the big WOW factor of having sent men to the moon, there is precious little to do there unless you spend a great deal more money (which has to be found out of the taxpayer's pocket) in building bases, facilities, etc.
The result was that N.A.S.A. lost its funding and the missions were scrapped.

It is too dangerous and expensive.

We plan to return when the new space station has been built that will orbit the earth. travelling from there as a base will eliminate the cost and danger of leaving and returning through the earhts atmosphere.

Because of high costs which are beyond Nasa‘s budget.
After all, it was only a cat and dog race between USA and
Russia to be first on the moon. Not much was achieved from
this adventure excepting "I beat you" - a foolish, risky and a
child‘s game.

Money, and what would be the point?

You have to have a very good reason to go to the moon.

Last time it was to beat the Russians to it.

NASA fell out with hollywood studios and hasn`t been able to use them since.
Maybe they can try using Pinewood studios for the next "Moon Landing"?
