OK, I'm from Puerto Rico. Puerto Rico is part of the USA since 1898 when Spain lost the American-Spanish war. Puerto Ricans are American citizens since the Law Foracker, which was signed in 1917 at the US Congress. Our official languages are Spanish and English, the most used is Spanish, because as I said we were a colony of Spain since 1493 when Christopher Columbus arrived. Puerto Ricans are a blend among Spaniards, Indians (named Tainos) and Africans. Their native music is "Bomba" which is a sound composed with many African rytims. Also "Salsa" is a very danced music in the island. Because the blend of the races I told before Puerto Ricans can be as white as a person from Holland, as Indian as the ones seen on tv or as black as Eddie Murphi, but all of them feel the same, is weird to find rascism in Puerto Rico. Something peculiar is that you can find people who are black or Indian color with blue or green eyes, mostly of the women are beautiful, I'm talking from my side. Purto Rico is an island which measurement is 100 x 35 milles, the northern area is bath by the waters of the Atlantic Ocean and in the southern by the Caribbean sea, named like that for another tribe of indians with that name (Caribe) that use to live in the smaller Antilles and were enemies of the Tainos. Right now we are The Common Wealth of Puerto Rico since 1951 with its own goverment and Constitution, is like be an state of the union and not be it, hard to explain. Our specialties for cooking are mostly sea food, dishes make with plantain or coconut, different ways of cooking rice and fish. Our cousing is richful in taste and in dishes. I hope this may help you for more info you may try www.enjoypuertorico.com Good luck with your homework.

Climate: Puerto Rico enjoys a summery tropical climate. Temperatures average 82 degrees F. (28 degrees C.) in winter and 85 degrees F. in summer, and the trade winds provide constant breezes.

Economy: Puerto Rico's economy is based largely on the production and exportation of manufactured goods, high-technology equipment and pharmaceuticals. The goverment provides a large percentage of the population, as do business, tourism and agriculture. In the 18 century Puerto Rico was the 1st. exporter of coffee, tobacco and sugar cane, the coffee served to the Pope stills coming from Puerto Rico and the carpets used in the White House were made in Puerto Rico.

Driving: Is as in the U.S.A. is on the right hand side of the road. Distances in here are marked in kilometers (1 km. equals 0.6 miles) and speed limits are set by miles per hour (mpr). A valid Stateside driver's license is legal to use in Puerto Rico for up 3 months.

Acohol: the legal age for drinking alcohol in Puerto Rico is 18, also for voting. For gambling it was changed to 21.

At the biggining Christopher Columbus named the island as "San Juan Bautista" which means Saint John The Baptist" later on that the capital was changed to the place were tha actual capital is was named Puerto Rico, which means Rich Port. Because of the use of the name of Rich Port the island became Puerto Rico and the capital "San Juan" which means Saint John.

Hope this would help you.
