All in all, I actually served close to ten years in several stretches starting at age 14, although I never entered adult prison populations until I reached 21. Prior to that it was youth detention leading to borstal. So it depends on what you call doing time.
The longest single sentence was 7 1/2 years. The second longest was 4 1/2 years. Youth detention/borstal accounted for 6, going on 7 years. There were several years in which I was free under licence, and subject to recall.
I served part of the time sectioned and restrained under the mental health act and segregated from the general population, following violent disagreements with some of my fellow inmates. Which was okay - I thought I was only quarantined for a couple of weeks but when I came back to the world of the living I found out several months had past while I was in a happy-clappy, drug-induced stupor.
Time REALLY flies when you're a state-sanctioned smack-head LOL
It was tedious. It was *extremely* violent. And it could get worse than depraved at times. All those horror stories you've probably heard?
They're mostly true, subject to variation of course.
If you're looking at doing real time, best you prepare yourself for some of the most frightening, nerve-racking, horrific and life-altering days of your life.
Unless things have gone soft since my day.
My crimes ranged from A&B (Assault & Battery) to assault with offensive weapons, B&E (Breaking & Entering) and B&E to occassion A&B, degrees of ABH and GBH (as it was then - I'm not sure these things even exist these days), aggravated assault and robbery, arson and numerous lesser offences of drunk and disorderly, possession and breaches of the peace were TICked. A significan number of the charges were racially motivated; at one time I was a fully paid up member of the NF and a regular little neo-nazi skinhead type.
There was also mention of attempted murder, but those charges folded.
OH!!!
And I got put away one time for hunting down and killing somebody who asked if I'd ever done time and stuff... :oP
Seriously - good luck if you're heading toward time on the inside. You're going to need it. Learn from it what you will.

I think so. I got arrested for drinking and driving. I passed out and ran off the road. that's where the cops found me. When they slapped the cuffs on me I did sober up a bit, but I don't remember if I was caged or not when my father came to get me. I'm sure that's not the story you were looking for, but being honest it's the best that I could do.
