I am a Tom Crusie fan. I like a lot of his films, but sometimes they can be either hit or miss. They can be Vanilla Sky (good) or Eyes Wide Shut (bad). While I had high expectations going into this film, nothing could have prepared me for the film I saw. This is probably the best film Tom Cruise has ever done. This two and a half hour plus film flys by and takes your breath with it as it goes. Go see it for yourself!

Release Date: December 5, 2003
MPAA Rating: R- for strong language, battle sequences.
U.S. Box Office: $111,110,575

My grade: 8/10 *

A decent movie, very entertaining. They did a good job on getting the dress, mannerisms, and weapons of the samurai right. If only they would have researched the American weapons and equipment. There were to many glaring inaccuracies on that front to address here. The director and screenwriters obviously were not familiar with the Gatling gun, or even the enfield rifle. If you are looking for an entertaining evening, I highly recommend it. If you are looking for a work of historic fiction that portrays the times accurately, I would recommend 'Gettysburg', or 'Ride with the Devil' if you are interested in American history of the era. If Samurai films are more your interest, any by Akira Kurosawa on the subject are second to none. 'Seven Samurai', 'Yojimbo', and 'Throne of Blood' are some of my favorites.

A great movie not only for being entertaining but because it helped me find out more about the Japanese society, their norms, values and traditions during that period of time. The movie also clarified a few things related to the role of westerners in Japan, how they were used by the Japenese rulers. Enemies can become friends, once u give your self the change to fully understand the other side, things can be turned around.
