OK you guys, I AM a Swedish woman, and pretty much the only answer here that is both accurate and actually helpful is Monica's, the Finnish girl. She's right on the money.

Forget nudity, forget instant sex, forget massages, forget smorgasbords, all that stereotypical BS. Try respect, consideration, honesty, integrity, and follow Monica's excellent pointers.

Be willing to do the dishes and pick up any future potential kids from daycare - like Monica says, we live in an extremely gender equal society and expect our men to act accordingly - conservative, oldfashioned macho routines do not work at all on us. Gentlemanly manners do, however, just like Monica says.

There's also an extremely good chance that your lady is very liberal, measured by US standards, taking things like pro-choice pretty much for granted, so if you're a conservative republican, you could be in for some real compatibility issues.

Also, she's probably not religious or spiritual, as Sweden is a very secularized society, generally speaking.

As for taking it slow or not, take your cue from her. If you're uncertain, slow is better, just make sure that she knows that you're definitely interested so that she doesn't mistake your slowness for lack of interest. That's a mistake that many Swedish men make when proceeding slowly. Try just the compliments and the good night kiss on the first date, call her again to set up a new date within a couple of days, and if it seems to be going well, progress to trying a deeper kiss and seeing how she reacts. How you proceed from there on subsequent dates will depend on how she responds - be alert to her signals and follow them.

Hope that helps, and good luck!

Well, I'm not Swedish, but I've lived in Finland most my life, and the cultures and morals are rather the same so I'll give it a go...

1. Scandinavian women are very independent, so try not to appear bossy. (However, she'll probably like it if you paid for her when you guys go out. You know, just the gentleman thing.)

2. Finns and Swedes take a while to warm up to people, so don't rush it. You'll goo a long way by being polite and considerate.

3. Take an interest in her country. Scandinavians are very proud of their heritage and cultures, so I'm sure she'll be pleased to know you're taking an interest.

3. Open doors for her and things like that. That will definately impress her with your manners, as the guys (at least modern finnish men) here don't do that. We ARE living in extremely gernder-equal countries!

4. Just be yourself. Scandinavians hate fakeness and are rather honest people, so try not to act completely different than you normally would!!

Wishing you all the best!! :)

R,

First if you plan conversing with this woman in written form (letters, poems, e-mail) for heaven's sakes do it using proper English and correct spelling.

i have mett a lovely sewdish...should have been written .... I have met a lovely Swedish woman.

Use proper capitalization and spelling especially when when you mis-spelled Swedish as sweedish.

Women from all parts of the world prefer a well spoken and well written man; regardless of their education level. I have been to multiple countries and found this to be true.

As for the BS about expecting sex on the first date; ignore them. Dude84's advice about banging them on the first date...he is remembering the first date (and continues to) with his hand...not a Swedish woman.

That goes for PAUL J (except for the spelling part) and hog4ubabby (great word picture).

As I said, I have been to over 2 dozen countries (as a civilian) and I doubt he has been out of his home state.

Be yourself, be polite and be a gentlemen. Just take it from there.

*Learn how to spell and talk and pronounce.
*I do not like you just because you're foreign.
*Stop stalking me at discos!
*Just because you find me pretty doesn't mean I think you are.
*No, I'm not in a relationship with you after 5 minutes talking
*No, We are not friends for ever end ever.
*Stop touching me!
*Yes I can be Swedish without being a blonde, having over-sized breasts, long legs and feeling the need to undress every now and then... or wait. I can't. I'm not Swedish. Leave it!

They hate bad spelling, so get to school.

It's an old Swedish custom for the man to turn up on the first date naked for sure. And the first time you meet her mother, you should, as a matter of etiquette, ask how high up her legs she shaves.

Comments about Swedish Blue movies are best kept for Grandma though.

No 'men only' jokes. They are not so gobby as English women, quite polite in fact.
Talk about saving the planet - they like all that!
