Why does everyone shriek and panic when Christine removes Erik's mask? The opera patrons halfway back and further can't see what he looks like. Even the viewer at home can only see his deformity during the closeup facial shots. So unless they're mimicking the reactions of those closer to the stage and backstage, then it seems like someone would have to superhero type vision to tell what he looked like that far away.

Along with Christine removing his mask, perhaps some belatedly realized it was not the actor who was supposed to be playing the part. Of course, how they couldn't tell anyway...

That´s what I love about fiction: anything is possible. :)

I think that the moviemakers meant this: everyone can see what happens. That´s why they freak out. No superpowers. It´s on screen so it´s possible.

I quess we´ll all just have to adjust to the fact that everything can´t be produced to be realistic. Thankgod for imagination ^^

This is such a fabulous production that by recasting two of the three leads and adding some better songs it could have been, well, great.

My grade: 8/10 *

I think everybody was screaming was because they knew that the phantom had a face like that and they knew that he would be angry if someone did that to him!! They probably also realised that she'd be in danger because she revealed him!! I'm not too sure but I think that thats the reason!!
