Because with less than 1% of us making over $100,000/year that means that most people are like me, barely scraping by. We may have some very rich people, but most of us are very poor or living paycheck to paycheck

After living in a number of countries (7) for extended periods I can honestly say yes. For the average person you deal with at the markets and on the street that are trying to make a living all Americans have a life to envy. This may or may not be a valid feeling; however, with the movies and TV this is what they see. To them the American dream (the one they see through their eyes) is still alive and well. I've tried to tell them otherwise but it is hard to convince someone who has to have their children including their 5 year old beg for food inorder for the family to eat when they see evidence of otherwise. Remember too that the Americans they get to meet, generally are on vacation - that translates to dollars and frivolous spending. When would they ever experience a "vacation."

A French girl that moved in next door to us 20 years ago - not 5 or 10 but 20 years ago - was shocked that we only had one television set. She was under the impression all Americans had one in every room. She was a school teacher.

It depends on who you talk to.

To Europeans, Aussies, and Japanese, the answer is no. People from those regions are aware of this fact and are very aware that the U.S. has a wide gap between rich and poor.

However, people from developing nations are still under the impression that all Americans are rich and assume life is easy here

And I also second Krissy's comment regarding the movie industry (which portrays a completely false perspective of American life)

I think so.
People from other states assume that I'm rich just because I live in Connecticut. Because of having had that experience firsthand, and from people in my own country, then yes.
I don't know how true it still is, but many years ago, immigrants came to America because they believed our road were "paved with gold", that they'd have a better, richer life here. If this is still true today, then they must have the assumption that we're all rich.

No, the only reason people from other countries thnk all Americans are rich is because of the film industry - and all the movies with people who live in big houses with gardens.

I find, though, that Americans think:

-All British people are posh (NOT true!)

-All Spanish people are lazy (NOT true either)

;-)

It depends on what kind of richness and what type of "americans" you speak about;I supose that you speak only about north americans. I just can speak for myself(european); but culturally speaking, my overall impression is that north americans are quite poor. And speaking about money, of course they are not all rich. The level of life can be higher than other countries, but I supose that the price of it is having to work like bees. That is not being rich.

there's a lot lack of understanding on your "question", that's not uncomplicated to understand the position to initiate... i might want to word 2 factors: a million. there are a range of international locations with both border disputes (Russia, Japan, Korea, and China, to call very few). Does that cause them to non-international places through your account? Does the actual undeniable actuality that Syria needs to annihilate Lebanon and Israel because it considers them portion of "better Syria" propose that's not a state? 2. lots of the forefathers of the Palestinians who now stay in Israel got here in the course of the 18th century. they have names like Copty (from Egypt), and so on. Does that propose they're colonialists? it form of feels to me you may want to do properly to examine some historic previous, and to shop an open concepts. Heck, you would even confirm out that Israel is between the better effective issues that got here about contained in the ultimate one hundred years contained in the middle east.

the poverty level in the US is an income just above 1200.00 a year, in some countries poverty level is 100. 00 more or less a year, so by comparison our poorest people seem rich to some. I am not sure of my numbers but you get the idea.

Not if they come down to Los Angles neighborhoods. Ghetto, war zone, and a large population of homeless people sleeping the streets. This is the real Beverly Hills that portrays itself int he movies as a rich and fancy place, NOTHING BUT A GHETTO, HOMELESS INFESTED ZONE.
