We accept that there are billions of stars, because someone else tells us

We accept that there are billions of bacteria floating around inside our mouths because someone has told us....

We accept the religious acts of others, thousands of years ago because someone tells us

Yet, some one tells us "watch out for the wet paint" or leaves a sign on it, do you always run your finger on it to see whether it is still wet?

Do you do this?
Why do I do this?

i like to move the wet paint sign and watch the people sit/lean on the wet paint. oh such fun.

your right though, when i used to be a decorator i always done the whole finger running thing to check if it was still wet even if someone said it was wet. its like some kind of itch we have to scratch within ourselves.

Scientific knowledge and discoveries do not have as much influence on our every-day life as that paint, people do not really care much because nothing would change in most peoples' lives practically if sb discovered that e.g. the stars are much closer to Earth than formerly thought. Also, can you imagine to check all such things yourself? So it's easier to trust that. Then again, people are discoverers when about the practical part of life which I've mentioned. If it were different, we wouldn't get off the trees. Both the ability of trusting the ones who know some things better (historians, astrophysics, etc.) as well as discovering reality are absolutely natural, healthy and useful in life.
But I don't tuch the 'wet paint', maybe because it smells - I can check it in another way.

the first two statements i see simply as assumptions. the third...i see as a good fictional read.
why do we test to see if the paint is still wet? Because who knows how long that sign has been up...and it's phsycial and something we can get an actual result from. Besides guestimating how many stars there are in the sky. We really can find out if it is wet..
man i need sleep :)

Well Science is not wrong as far as bacteria, and stars I would have to say on the other hand Religon is as much belief as it is faith as far as wet paint signs I dunno I just try to avoid it but, I do like to think for myself and I do not take everything told to me as complete honesty I just don't care about stars, or anything like that now the Bengals game that's another story

First of all, you don't "hear" a wet paint sign.

Second, paint dries and the only way to test that theory is to in fact touch it.

And third, no, I don't .

I believe everything I hear from God....other than that, gimme proof!

It's human nature to believe things straightaway from seemingly reliable sources, but I'm a skeptic to anything that doesn't seem to go along with what God is telling me; He is the ultimate Truth in my life :)

very good point....you SHOULD not believe everything you hear, but you cant IGNORE everything you hear either....you can't win!

i think if we could proove ourselves that their were bacteria etc etc, we would, but we all cant...but as for the paint, we can...by putting a finger out!!

Yep, I want to do that too. I also tend to believe everything an Englishman says. What is it with that accent that makes everything seem so...intelligent.
