Hi, I'm sorry if I answer this question in a manner slightly different from what you expected, but I'm not exactly sure what you are trying to ask. Are you asking why accreditation is important, or which schools are accredited and have been ranked as best in the nation?

I'll start off with defining accreditation. Colleges, universities, and programs are accredited by independent organizations. Accrediting organizations that are "recognized" are reviewed for quality by the Council for Higher Education Accreditation (CHEA) or the U.S. Department of Education. Here's a list of recognized, accrediting organizations:

Accreditation is important because it helps to ensure that the public is educated about which colleges, universities, and/or programs might potentially be "diploma mills" that accept pretty much anyone's money and will give just about anyone a degree. If you know that a college you are considering is a diploma mill, I'd suggest moving on to a different college since a diploma from a diploma mill doesn't mean much in the real world from the perspective of a potential employer. Also, the quality of education you receive from a non-accredited organization may be poorer than the quality of education you can receive from an accredited college or university.

Accreditation is also important for the sake of transfers. If your college or university is not accredited, it may be more difficult for you to transfer coursework to an accredited university.

You can search for accredited universities by name, state, country, or accreditor using the following search tool:

Good luck!
