why not combine the two celebrations?

We have fireworks all the time here in the UK. Not just on Guy Fawkes or Christmas nothing is a celebration anymore, just people with too much money.

Thanksgiving is an American holiday, & Christmas is a Christian holiday. Combining the two would make as much sense as combining Guy Fawkes (Mr.Fawkes was an angry Catholic) Day with the Jewish celebration of Hanukkah, just because they happen near each other on the current calendar!

Remind me again why British Catholics would participate in burning effigies of Guy Fawkes?

And don't be concerned about things being expensive for Americans! America's leaders teach by example that it's perfectly fine just to spend money you haven't got!

But there different types of celebrations, one is for thanking and one is for decorating, guess they think were as crazy having Guy Fawkes night so close to Christmas too, maybe we should combine those and have a bonfire on Christmas day with fireworks to finish the day off.

I celebrate Thanksgiving and Christmas all year round, and it has not cost a thing, except a a kind and loving thought.

That would be like combining Guy Forks & Xmas or Boxing Day & Xmas. Not an option over here.......We need the time off anyway!

You've never seen Friends, have you? They don't all buy for each other, either. They nominate a friend to be "Secret Santa" & get a prezzie from one or other of their group. OR they buy tacky, cheap gifts (you've seen them say "Cool, Joey, I can really use a pair of gardening gloves" or something like that). Just buy for your best friend or save hard if you want to buy for all of them.
