If a stock of food can feed 20 chickens for 24 days, how long would the same food of stock last if there were 16 chickens ?

A stock is equivalent to 20 x 24 chicken-days = 480 chicken-days.

What this means is that the same stock of 480 chicken-days can feed 1 chicken for 480 days, or feed 480 chickens for 1 day.

Since
480 chicken-days divide by 16 chicken = 30 days

Thus, the same stock can feed 16 chickens in 30 days.

Hope this helps.

20 chickens for 24 days
1 chicken for 24x20 days
16 chickens for (24x20)/16 = 30 days
( the assumption is that the chickens consume equally)

stock of food : s = cte
number of chicken in first example: c1 = 20
time in1rst example: t1 = 24 days
number of chicken example 2: c2=16
time in example 2: t2=?

c1 * t1 = c2 * t2 = s = cte
t2 = c1 * t1/c2 = 30 days
