Tips for Preparing for Exam

Ranger/Lifeguard Selection Process

Overview

The following suggestions are based upon Recruitment Unit interviews with Department employees who often score well when taking exams. We have also incorporated information from Personnel Section publications and from other state departments. These are only suggestions. If applicants have developed successful strategies for taking exams, they should continue using what works for them!

We suggest that applicants pay particular attention to the Position Description and Scope section on examination announcements. The Position Description section describes routine duties performed by incumbents in the classification. The Scope describes knowledge and abilities that will be tested during the examination process.

We suggest that applicants consider the following approach:

Write key words and phrases from the Position Description section and from the Scope on a separate sheet of paper. Together, the sheets form a booklet.
Xerox several booklets.
Using your resume and other background material, list your experiences in the first booklet. While writing down your experiences, concentrate on using phrases or short sentences.
When finishing, put the booklet away for several days. Then, without using any background material such as your resume, complete the second booklet.
Compare the first and second booklets. Combine the best of both booklets in the third booklet. The combined experiences provide a foundation for completing applications and preparing for oral interviews.
This approach emphasizes preparing for specific questions related to the Scope of the exam. Please remember that this is only one approach. Explore other approaches. Use an approach that is comfortable for you.

First become a vegetarian for a few months. Eat lots of rich food like ladiesfinger , greens , peanuts, honey etc. Keep your concentration on studies only. Prepare all your subjects according to syllabus. Refer old question papers and get ready with answers. Take off your mind from studies when your are bored up getout and do some walking and relax yourself and start studying once again. Do not keep yourself awake for longer periods and this will tire your brain. You should have at least six hours of sleep per day otherwise your concentration will be reduced. Thats all go ahead best of luck.
