I've never been to a gynaecologist.
But the concept of them leaving the room while i undress is a bit absurd.
They are going to see a lot more than me just naked, they're going to be delving deep into the mysteries of the unknown.
Some things in this world are absurd.

Yes. Women have many secret undergarments that they do not want to disclose to others, especially men (i.e: girdles, slimming panties). Also, being in a room with someone undressing is commonly considered inappropriate, especially if you are of the opposite sex. Also, this is a good time for gynoaecologists to tend to other matters.

The MD doesn't even come into the room until you are already undressed and sitting there with a drape on...

I suppose it's along the same lines as sterilising a needle before giving someone a lethal injection. Procedures.

Of course! Also, this prevents any lawsuits of sexual harrassement or abuse. That's another reason why there's always a female nurse in the room with him when he performs the exam.

It is so the doctor can check up on his/her other patients while the patient gets into the stirrups. Doctors frequently overbook and such exams are uncomfortable, so why not make it as stress free as possible?

Yes, you dont lie there completely naked for him to examine you anyway. You use sheets, etc. It is professional for him to leave the room. And, most of all, it is respectful.

No she doesn't . I talk to her and she's getting things together, but I've known her for a long time. I live in a small town. So we all know one another.

Yes - they want to give us a margin of dignity I suppose. A futile gesture at best! My gynacologist is a woman.
