Why do most people prefer Sarah Brightman as Christine Daae rather than Emmy Rossum?

Sarah sings for volume like most opera stars, with the opera singer who did Minnie Driver's singing parts as a good example.

Emmy Rossum does not. Her voice is clearer and nowhere near as shrill. She sounds like Christine should, at least in my opinion. Because while Christine was given voice lessons from childhood, I seriously doubt that Erik as her teacher would allow her to sing in a manner that would shatter glass. That's the whole reason he can't stand Carlotta.

Is it possibly because Sarah is the original in people's minds and no one can ever replace her? Just curious.

I think it´s because she´s the "One and only, original" Christine.

To me it´s just because of my personal preference: I like Brightman´s voice more than Emmy´s. It´s that simple to me, hehe.

Sometimes phans just claim to like Sarah more to get some respect from the other phans, which in my opinion is hilarious.

It´s great that people have different point of views, and I do agree with you; Emmy´s voice is gorgeous.

Think about the show, she not only is outstanding as a singer but superior as an actor as well. I think both elements are exemplery of her showmanship qualities and atribute her to be a standout. She is excellent on camera, presents herslf well and noes not give an aura of superiority like a lot of other stars of he caliber do.
