I also like Marion Keyes.

I like Martina Cole as she writes about the East End of London and the area that I live so it is always good to read about Barking, Dagenham and all the surrounding areas! So that is always good. Mandasue Heller writes about Manchester and surrounding areas, but they are still interesting though!

I like Rosamund Pilcher because of her breathtaking descriptions of England. My favorite of hers is The Day of the Storm.

I love American historical fiction by Ann Tatlock, Penelope Stokes, Jannette Oke, and John Steinbeck.

Richard Paul Evans is a great romance writer, without being perverted. I love The Locket.

Amy Tan is wonderful. Her book The Joy Luck Club was one of the best I have ever read. I enjoyed learning about the Chinese culture, both old and recent. The movie was also good.

Emily Ever After by Ann Tatlock is an excellent piece of chic lit.

I love the Mrs. Polifax mystery series by Gilman, because they are all suspenseful and funny at the same time.

Have you read the American bestseller Marley and Me? If you aren't a dog lover, you might not like it.

Hope this helps!

Besides classical authors, I like

Jose Ingenieros' Mediocre man, a book written at the beginning of the last century, that seems to be written this year.

Milan Kundera. I love all of his work. My all-time favorite book: The unbearable lightness of being, but there are many others, like The joke, and Laughable Loves.

Franz Kafka. I do not know why, but this particular author catched my eye since I was very young, with Metamorphosis, and later with Letter to His Father.

Carlos Fuentes. My favourite mexican writer, I like La región más transparente (Where the Air Is Clear ), and Gringo viejo (old gringo), two of his most famous novels.

H.P Lovecraft. This author is a must if you like horror literature!!

Charles Dickens is amazing! Give David Copperfield a go, you'll be hooked in no time.

The characterization of the dramatis personae in Dickens' work is the greatest in the history of English literature. The man created a unique style of writing, leading the reader to despise certain characters and love others. Wonderful!

John Irving is great. All of his books. Sophisticated and funny.

Maeve Binchy, if you like easy womens literature, as you obviously do. A lot of hearty stories, realtionships, and well written too.

Thomas Mann is great. Dont know how the translations are, but I think they are good too. Hes just a master

Klaus Mann, his son is more modern. And a great writer too.

Haruki Murakami. Modern, japanese literature. A master in his subject. Recommended book : Kafka on the shore.

I like all of George Orwell's novels, essays, criticisms, memoirs, letters, etc. and I've bought/collected the whole range of his works. His narrative style's exceptional with vivid phrases, few rude words, delightful to read anytime. It's a pity he passed away in his late 40's, I think he should have been awarded the Nobel Prize in literature if he had lived longer.

I like the Rebus series by Ian Rankin mainly because they are set in Edinburgh (where I live) and its good being able to relate to where they are talking about. I also like Marian Keyes books and Sophie Kinsella for light hearted reading.
