It would probably go something like
Chris Hansen walks in on some pothead smoking up.
Chris Hansen: Good evening. How are you doing.
Pothead: Super man... just super... *big stoned smiled*
Chris Hansen: I see you are smoking an illegal drug. Your online conversations also show you talking about your use of this drug. (waves papers around)
Pothead: I talk online... yeah... dude... people... WHOA
Chris Hansen: Yes you do. Like here you say 'I'm a gonna smoke me a mary jane tonight'. I don't suppose Mary Jane is your girlfriend and that's some slang for some sort of sexual activity?
Pothead: Uhhhh... DUDE! You're like that guy on TV!
Chris Hansen: I am Chris Hansen with Dateline NBC and we are doing a story on people who smoke marijuana. *Cameras come out*
Pothead: Dude! Is this gonna be on tv? Oooh sweet! Hey you guys wanna party?

I would be funny as hell. The potheads would be asking the reporter if they had anything to eat because they had the munchies. Whenever the reporter asked them anything that they thought was funny, they would have that laugh that all potheads have.

it would be crossing the line. but some people would be amazed at how people get sent to jail for doing nothing and act all self righteous about it. they'd probably say something like: "when we done it in the 60s it was cooler. which makes it completely different. we stood for something. these kids these days are just smoking to get high. we smoked it to be part of the revolution." lousy hippies.......
predators are one thing. using marijuana isn't exactly the crime of the century. i'll wager 2/3 the of the dateline staff has smoked it at some point.

It couldn't be any worse then if Dateline NBC allied with MTV's Punked to catch child molesters now that is a spinoff i'd actually watch
