It should creep you out because it is true. The statistics on sexual abuse are rising but many Americans do not know this or recognize the growing problem.

Oprah is ussually really good at getting an accurate account of stats for her show. I didn't see the episod but I know that she holds her words in high regard so it is most likely a respectable publishing that put out these stats. But as with all stats they are just asampling of a group and can NOT be perfect.
Here isa site of stats on diffrent child molester information: http://www.yellodyno.com/html/child_molester_stats.html

I don't know the exact numbers but I know of 1 person who was molested by a family member and another person who is the product of rape from her mother's stepfather. It is creepy and a sad commentary on the world we live in. Most people don't talk about it.

No one can intelligently read data anymore. People see what they WANT to see, and most of it gets misinterpretted as the fact that world is a hideous place, and anyone and everyone WILL molest your child if you leave your kid alone for 5 seconds. Fear is what drives American television.
