Well the first thing I would do is to refresh the computer settings by turning it off and then back on...
That usually resets any problems you might have...
It could be something real simple like static if you are on carpet...
Or just a plug in your house if you replug it into a different outlet...
Sometimes that helps...
That's all I can do for this, not knowing if any mechanical problems could be present...

Try disconnecting the cd drive and replacing it with a new one.
You can find one for less than $10 nowadays.
Just look around in computer shops.....any computer cd drive.
Or just to see if that's the real problem....borrow a cd drive , connect and see.
Also, could you tell me your computer specifications?

You just might have a virus or spyware in your pewter..or...your cd or dvd burner might just have a bad or clogged laser...
