This move to promote a good image by using plump-sized models...is it good or bad? I mean...being fat is not a good idea...and so is being thin. So why cant they just use average sized models to convey an image of healthy diet and lifestyle? Im concerned.

They need to find a balance between the two. Toothpicks promote anorexia, and using plus-sized models allow overweight people to justify their excess weight. I knew a girl who was morbidly overweight (ie. more than 100 pounds) but she thought she looked good. She didn't see anything wrong with the way she looked and was perfectly comfortable. While I salute her for this, and am amazed at her self confidence... I also find myself thinking about her health risks. Everyone tells her she's fine the way she is.. but in reality she isn't. She's a hazard to her own health. Plus-sized models aren't helping her situation any. Of course on the other extreme, toothpick models are telling underweight people that it's okay to stop eating. It's unfortunate that the media can't provide us with a healthy body image. Ultimately though, they are trying to sell a product, and they're going to do whatever they have to do to make money.

I agree.

I think the toothpick models are bad, as they promote anorexia, bulimia and all the health problems which come with being a size 4!

Nor do I agree with promoting obesity, which is just as harmful.

Why can they not have a selection of sizes, maybe from a size 8 to a size 12?? Not fat, healthy size. I don't think most normal girls are under a size 8, and when over a size 12, it is bordering on overweight.

I was a size 10 (I'm pregnant now, so it doesn't count) - but size 10 is healthy and normal.

I'm concerned too!

:-)

Hopefully they will use plenty of average sized models too. I think they only use plump ones to show people the opposite to see if they can handle that and how shallow or deep their reactions are. I agree being fat's not a great thing to promote, when it comes down to it I believe the ad campaigns will have enough sense to use average real women.

Personally speaking - the mega thin ones are as unappealing as overweight ones...there is a fine line...

However, to make the clothes look good, you pick the model accordingly...getting people talking by using wafer thin models elevates the brands profile...by even talking about it, we are guarenteeing their continued use...it is only through indifference to them that it will stop...I know the marketing and fashion industries VERY well....what do you think?

I agree they should use average women and men and the models should represent from the very small to the very large, and stop using beauty queens and they should use people they find in the supermarkets

I have always liked small women i am 5-7. 155 pounds,If my bride has to carry me over the threshold then she is too big but some men like big women but it has been my experience that when men have wives that are big they are always looking at thin women.Regardless of what women think, most men who have big wives find thin wives more desirable,And some leave them after they become big. men are like women. women like men who have hard bodies and have taken good care of themselves and men are the same.men become less desirlbe when they get fat too

I'm not gonna worry about it, cause in the end, no matter what, they're gonna use the models that are gonna sell the most clothes.
