I get the following message every minute in my event viewer and my Information Store stops. If I restart the IS it is fine for half an hour or so, then it stops again. This just started yesterday. This PC is also a domain controller.

event id :9175

The MAPI call 'OpenMsgStore' failed with the following error:
The attempt to log on to the Microsoft Exchange Server computer has failed.
The MAPI provider failed.
Microsoft Exchange Server Information Store
ID no: 8004011d-0512-00000000

Anyone have a definitive solution.

Thanks

See if you are having any errors related to the SA. If the SA stops and the stores are still mounted, you will get these errors over and over again. Also check the different stores and make sure there is only one System mailbox (check the SystemObjects container). If the System mailbox from Store1 accidentally got moved to Store2 for example, the 2 System mailboxes in Store2 would have a fit like this.

There is a wide range of possible causese for this error and much more information is needed to troubleshoot it. A few questions come to mind.

1. Is the information store actually mounted when you start the service? Verify this in System Manager.

2. Is your anti-virus program set to exclude the mdbdata folder (and the log folder if you've moved it)? If an antivirus program thinks it sees a virus in the mail store or any of the log files and quarantines the file, you're in for some real problems.

3. Did you recently install a MAPI compliant e-mail client on the exchange server? Outlook, Outlook Express, and Thunderbird are all possible culprits and must NEVER be installed on an Exchange Server. Versions of Mapi32.dll, Emsabp32.dll, and Emsmdb32.dll are incompatible with the Exchange versions of those files.

4. Are any other errors being logged in Event Viewer?

5. Have you made any other changes to the system shortly prior to seeing this condition?

Search the MS Knowledge Base for information on that error. If that doesn't lead to a solution, it's time for a call to MS Premier Support.

Your information store could be full. Your computer could be running out of hard disk space and is dismounting the Information Store to prevent access (because the logfiles can no longer be written to a full disk). You can move the information store to another hard drive by following the steps and referring to the following article:
