And they rely on the tips to live? I never used to be racist, but the longer I am a waiter, the more I begin to stereotype. Blacks complain about bad service in restaurants and getting cabs, but we rely on getting tipped to live. If we have to choose between a white customer and a black one, our chances for getting a tip are much better from the white customers. Its not racist. Its having a job and trying to earn money. Do blacks not know this?

Yep we know it. I tip very well if the service is good. If the service is not that good (and you are not busy), I give you a dollar. But, If the service is just plan horrible...You will not be getting a tip from me.

It's sad how many racist waiters there are in this world because I know for a fact black people are not the only race that leave bad tips. I used to be a waitress when I was a freshman in High school and I noticed that the people who didn't give good tips were low class people who only had enough money for the food. Low class people come in all sorts of races, in case you didn't know. They're not all black and ghetto like so many white people say on here.

If you depend on money so much, go out and get a real job. One that require more skill than just balancing food on trays. Waitressing is a job for high school kids.

It's not really that easy dollface. This dude could be trying to juggle this job while going to school. Or, may-be he is in the process of trying to find a different job. I had to spend 2 years at McDonalds before I could get a better paying job.

As for the whole thing with black people and not tipping, I honestly have no experience with waiting tables, so I'm not too experienced on that whole thing. All I know is that my sister had a job in high school that depended on tips, and being at McDonalds for 2 years, I know how frusting the restaurant business can be, so I always try to tip over 15%. Unless the person was a complete asshole, then I might just give 1/2 of what I'd normally give. My friends are also the same way. Except for one of them (who is white btw), who seems to find the smallest excuse for a reason not to tip someone.

Oh come on dude. Ugh i hate when people put other races in boxes and assume that we are all the same! it depends on where you live for one thing. Some people just dont have enough funds to give all that they can. They still tip you, don't they? yes. They could just decide to leave without giving you anything. I have seen some white patrons leave nothing but a buck on the table. I leave according to the rule. 15% or whatever hell, i have been known to give more than that and the money is from MY allowance! I understand that people are struggling so dont generalize it to one racial group.

I am black and I left dam good tips. Even if the waiters act like ***holes. I once asked a waiter for a craneberry juice with no ice and I got craneberry juice with a glass full of ice. So I told them that I couldn't drink it and the waiter got all pissy because I refuse it. Even after that I gave his *** a $10 tip.

well, you are generalizing, which all racist people seem to do. But there are black people that do tip. Sometimes you also have to take into consideration about the people who didn't tip. What is their financial issues? Maybe they don't have it. Maybe they are full time students trying to make it. You don't know what kind of situations people are in.

Don't worry about it if someone calls you racist for noticing a pattern. For whatever reason blacks do not tip nearly as often or as well as any other race. - of course there are exceptions to the rule. There have even been studies and articles written up about the topic in restaurant magazines for years.

Everybody knows it, but we're not suppose to talk about it because its taboo, its not PC, its hurtful. When we censor ourselves and try to sweep things under the rug we never get to the root of the issue...

This is why Political Correctness is a bad thing. Intellectual dishonesty hinders progress. So does censorship.

Read this interesting bit about the differences in tipping:

your right. i used to deliver pizza and its sad to say, but our company manager "blacked" out all of the "black" neighbourhoods on the map and said that if anyone called from any of those addresses then to tell them that we dont deliver there. SOME blacks tip very well though...i think that it has to do with people's upbringing. its sad when you see someone that obviously cant afford to tip very much, tip very nicely (LIKE ME!!! b/c i've been there and i know how you feel!!!). and then you see others who CAN afford it and they get great quality service and leave a couple of bucks (if that sometimes). i feel sorry for you and hope that your luck changes...or if you have repeat customers that dont tip...spit in their food ;)

Your attitude determines where you go in life, not your customers. And your generalisation isn't helping your attitude any. Your response to a situation determines the outcome. Negative response - negative outcome.

Take charge of your own life and stop waiting for someone to make it better for you. You want more money? Then get another job if you're not happy with the one you've got. But if you go into another job with the same attitude you have now you're going to get the same results.

its a stereotype, but with stereotypes come humor and something to be able to laugh at. every race/culture has their own stereotypes, and if someone was to ever t wake offense to it then they really dont deserve to ever laugh, ever again.
Do your job right, do it to the best of your ability, and get upset if you were to make under 15% on a bill.
If you go in with the attitude, "another black table"
then you wont give a **** and know you will get a bad tip.
so forget about who is sitting there, just do your job, maybe even forget to charge them for a soda, and see how well you get compensated.

i have alot of opinion about waiters and waitress in general... not in a good way. but I am not toally blame it on them but in society and government. on the issue of being a cheap tipper, i totally agree with you on that one. I wasnt stereotype on something untill you experience it. all my waiter / waitress friends complain exactly what you are complain. after years of complains, i do believe black really like to complain bad service in order for them to tip wait/waitress less or something get the free meal out of it. Sorry to say
